Have You Heard About The – Petbarn Foundation?

Hey Woofa’s,

I came across an article in our local newspaper and it caught my attention.

Apparently, February is Rescue Month for the Petbarn Foundation.

I mean EVERY day is a good day to adopt a pet rather than buy!

The Petbarn Foundation urges Aussies to help re-home a pet and save them from being euthanised.

The foundation Manager, Janelle Bloxsom, says that sadly 200,000 dogs are surrendered to shelters every year!

As if that wasn’t bad enough, of those 44,000 were healthy dogs!

Healthy dogs are being put to sleep because shelters and care facilities cannot handle the volume of surrender dogs.

This breaks my heart!

WHAT DOES THE PETBARN FOUNDATION DO?

As most of us would already know –  Petbarn is a Pet Store!

However, according to their website, the Petbarn Foundation was established in 2012.

It is the corporate charitable arm of Petbarn offering support for:

  • animal welfare groups,
  • pet related charities and
  • the people who dedicate their time and effort into caring for pets in need.

The Foundation focuses on the 5 R’s Philosphy!

  • Reduce the Euthanasia of unwanted pets;
  • Encouraging Australians to think adoption first through Rescue;
  • Rehabilitate abandoned, abused, and injured animals;
  • Demonstrate Responsibility towards the welfare of animals;
  • Bring Relief to pets and the people who love and care for them.

The Foundation takes donations, so if you can spare a few dollars CLICK HERE:

Where will my money go?

Donations will go towards:

  • Supporting the community by providing assistance to vulnerable pet owners through financial, product and veterinary support;
  • Partnering with registered charities experienced in Domestic Violence to provide essential pet supplies for people who have fled DV situations;
  • Raise awareness and provide support with mental health, in high risk environments such as with children and workplaces;
  • Provide financial, product and veterinary support to help promote adoption and reduce euthanasia rates;
  • Provide essential pet food and supplies for people displaced during Natural disasters.

WHY ADOPTION?

If you didn’t read the above figures, we had 44,000 HEALTHY dogs put to sleep in a year because there was no room for them!!

I have many customers who come to my dog grooming salon who have adopted dogs.

Most of them tell me they are the best dogs they have ever had.

The dog’s know they have been given a second chance.

Also, animals up for adoption are put through tests and checks to make sure they are fit to join a forever home.

The testing includes veterinary checks, temperament tests, vaccination and in most cases desexing.

I’ve also had customers rescue older dogs because they don’t want to go through the puppy stage.

So, before you decide to go buy an expensive dog, go to a rescue place first and think about adopting a dog.

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

Let’s focus on Pet Adoption everyday.

200,000 dogs were surrendered to shelters in a year, 44,000 of them were heathy dogs!!!!

The PetBarn Foundation is a fantastic charity working hard to reduce these figures and much more.
