Do You Spy On Your Dog While You’re Out?

Hey Woofa’s,

Do you ever wonder what your dog is doing when you’re not home?

What are they getting up to?

Are they just lazying around the house or yard?

Are they chewing on your stuff?

How cute do they look?

Worse still, are they still there??

I’m going to be honest we have 4 inside cameras and 3 outside cameras so we can spy on Billy lol

YES I know OTT (over the top)!!!

AND when we’re out we’re always checking on him, which is good mostly!  But sometimes it can become a bit obsessive!

This Christmas Dean (yes I’m blaming Dean) got Billy an Apple AirTag (2)!

So when he happens to be out of camera range, we can still make sure he’s in the house or in the yard!

Poor Billy has no privacy when we go out!!

Heres why?

OUR SCARE!

Dean and I had a scare 4 years ago now on Christmas Eve!

We were out at Dean’s parents, about 12 minutes away, we’d had dinner and dessert, enjoying the Christmas carols on TV and having a chat.

Our neighbour (whose dog I groom) called (at 11.45pm – it’s embedded into my brain) to say Billy was out the front in the street!!!!!  WTF???

At first I thought she had the wrong dog, because he can’t get out!

I then remembered opening the window (in our bedroom at the front ) from the bottom by a centimetre, so the cool air could come through for him.  He likes to lay under it.

And I thought, there’s no way he’s gotten out because the bottom of the windows have bars on them as well.

She knows Billy though so it had to be him.

As realisation kicked in, my heart fell into my stomach and I was sh!tting myself.

We left quick smart to figure out what had happened.

On the way home I was trying to wrap my head around how the hell he’d managed to get out?

It couldn’t possibly have been through our window, there’s no way???

The thought had crossed my mind that he could be on the road possibly getting run over, but we have a cup-de-sac that is very quiet it was 11.45pm at night and my neighbours wouldn’t let that happen.

THANK GOD!!

We got home and two of our neighbours are out the front on our yard chatting and Billy’s running around like his sh!t doesn’t stink having a ball of a time.

I thanked them, we chatted and went inside.

I investigated where Billy got out of our window!

He’d pushed the mesh away from the corner (ever so neatly) and he had climbed through, under the bars somehow and gotten out.

I believe it was after a cat!  For months beforehand another neighbour’s cat had started to antagonise him!

We think it must’ve walked in the garden by the window and he got so worked up he got out.

After this incident, we don’t know if or what happened to him before our neighbour saw him but it changed him.

He became very anxious and for a while became a bit destructive when we left him at night.

So since then we have cameras, and if we go out at night our parents babysit him for us.

This is why we have so many cameras and now an Apple Airtag.

WHAT’S AN APPLE AIRTAG?

According to the Apple website –

AirTag is a really easy way to keep track of your stuff.

Attach one to your keys, put another in your backpack. And just like that, they’re on your radar in the Find My app, where you can also track down your Apple devices and keep up with friends and family.

Starting at A$49

Billy doesn’t wear a collar while he’s at home with us!

His AirTag is on one of his (many) Bandanas, so when we go out we put it on him and we can keep track of him, by making sure he’s still in the yard or house.

He hasn’t gotten out since (nor have I opened our windows from the bottom again) – they open from the top as well)!

It’s only on him when we go out, and so far it’s worked well in giving us peace of mind.

I don’t believe Apple promote using it for your dog and others have dissed it, however for what we use it for, it works for us.

HOW DOES THE APPLE AIRTAG WORK?

If your dog gets out you go to the Find My App on your phone and simply track your dog via GPS.

WHO CAN USE AN APPLE AIRTAG?

Pretty much anyone (with an Apple iPhone).

You don’t have to just use it for your dog either, Dean has one on each of the cars as well.

It can go on anything you want to keep track of.

Or anything you tend to lose a lot………………..

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

It’s heart wrenching to hear that your dog has gotten away and you have no idea where it is.

It’s easy to slip an Apple AirTag onto your dog’s collar or bandana before you leave the house and keep track of them while you’re out.

It is that simple.

AND/OR if you want to go the extra step put cameras up in your house too.
