Should Dogs Be Allowed In Bunnings?

Hey Woofas,

I recently came across a story about Dogs In Bunnings.

For those who don’t know, Bunnings are Hardware Stores in Australia.

They also allow people to take their dogs into the stores, within reason.

Recently though a customer has had a not so great experience with having dogs in the store.

Which has also ignited them enough to complain about it on social media, as everyone tends to do these days.

They don’t deal with the issue at hand, they have to whinge about it on social media.

Make a big thing out of nothing really.

THE COMPLAINT!

According to Nine News.com the customer was walking down an aisle at Bunnings and came across dog droppings.

She even took a picture of the three dog nuggets.

THEN she complained about it by putting it on social media.

Also adding that after she had to get a worker to clean it up, someone had rolled their trolley through it!!!  OMG!!

The disaster of it all.

Then she goes on to say, someone else saw another shopper clicking their fingers for a staff member to come and clean up after her dog!!!

Further on it’s also mentioned that yet another shopper saw a dog fight at the checkout!!

She goes on to complain that it’s a hardware store not a dog park!

Things are getting out of hand!

WHAT BUNNINGS SAID?

According to the Nine News.com article, Bunnings Management responded with this –

Bunnings confirmed that dogs are allowed in store if
  • they’re friendly,
  • on a lead and
  • under control at all times, also  that staff can refuse entry if they display aggressive behaviour.

Bunnings chief customer officer Rachael McVitty told 9news.com.au –
  • “We’ve been welcoming pets into our stores for many years and love the feedback from customers about how much they enjoy having their four-legged companions with them while they shop with us,”
  • “The feedback we receive shows that the vast majority of pet owners are respectful of other customers and our team when they’re in our stores.
  • “We work hard to make sure our stores are safe, welcoming environments for everyone and we’re disappointed to hear one of our customers had a negative experience.
  • “We encourage any customer to reach out to one of our team members if they see or experience something we should be aware of so we can resolve it on the spot.”

WHAT I THINK?

I agree with the policies Bunnings have in place i.e. as long as the dogs are friendly, on a lead, or in the trolley and under control at all times.
I think they need to also add people should clean up after their dogs, i.e. have dog poop bags on hand and clean up after your dog.
Ideally, I don’t think dogs should be pooping in Bunnings, however when you’ve got to go you’ve got to go.
And as long as it’s not happening all the time.
Staff should have a say in it all as well, especially if people are clicking their fingers to clean it up.
As for the dog fight at the check out – was it a fight or was it just barking?
On this one you’d need to check the CCTV footage to actually see what happened.
Certain people have a tendency to exaggerate.
What it really comes down to is – how often is this happening?
I’ve been to our local Bunnings quite a number of times and have never seen dogs fighting nor have I ever seen dog poop in the aisle!
I’ve lived in my area for 40 something years so before Bunnings even existed.
NOTE – yes Billy has been to Bunnings a number of times.
We’ve never had an incident with him, barking, fighting or pooping!!!

WHAT DOES ALL THIS MEAN?

Someone wants to stop dogs from going to Bunnings!
What do you think?
